Findings
Chapters based on contrasting readings. Each mechanism appears in selected pilot texts; none describes a whole person or population pattern.

Accumulating credentials
One bio may place academic roles, company leadership, technical results, and community recognition together. The combination offers different public reasons to listen without creating a merit scale.
In the cards. Brumley and Liu show different accumulations: company, university, and awards in one; team, findings, competitions, and publications in the other.
Limit. Coexistence in a bio does not show how much weight an audience gives each signal.

Making a career into an argument
Order and verbs connect current roles to responsibilities and earlier episodes. A bio presents continuity, transition, or transferable experience.
In the cards. Henriques links research leadership and entrepreneurship; Wong connects private and public sectors within a partial addendum.
Limit. Editorial selection may omit episodes; the addendum does not represent all of RSAC.

Making works and outcomes visible
Named projects, artifacts, and findings move attention from a title to work described in the document.
In the cards. Cross names an open hardware practice and projects; Liu mentions platforms where the bio attributes findings.
Limit. The text publishes claims; this study does not audit their quality, impact, or external truth.

Linking experience to a public cause
A bio may connect technical practice with activism or public access. That relationship can exceed the codebook's eight families.
In the cards. Kreer links digital accessibility, disability rights, and access to state information.
Limit. The reading does not attribute intent to the writer or retrospectively create a ninth category.

Programme format shapes visibility
Length, template, session type, and documentary coverage change how much and what kind of information can be seen.
In the cards. RSAC contributes a partial addendum; USENIX has only one comparable presenter bio in the 2024 frame, while papers mainly list authors.
Limit. A missing or noncomparable bio does not mean a person lacks credentials.
